The Mount Parnitha

Casino Mont Parnes

The Mount Parnitha is the highest of Attica mountains (1,100m). In its huge pine wood forest, extending over 300kms2, you will have the chance to see over 818 different kinds of herbs and plants (1/6th of the flora of the country),thousands of trails to follow and hundreds of small caves to explore. Ancient Greeks believed that the goat-footed god Pan used to come to Parnitha quite often to play his music and dance in the forest. Today you can go up to the Hotel Mont Parnes, to battle with the odds in the casino.Or, if you are a hiker you can visit the mountain shelters of Bafi and Flambouri.
Casino Mont Parnes
All its rooms and suites command a breathtaking view. Its restaurant is open at noon from 13:15-15:00 and in the evening from 21:00-01:30.
Its other facilities include: two bars, a cafe, a snack-bar and the casino.
The casino is open daily except Wednesday from 19:30. Evening dress and valid passport are obligatory requirements of entry

The Mount Penteli

From the Mount of Penteli

Penteli is a smaller mountain than Parnitha, still green and full of springs, marble and history. The view from its top, both of the city and of the Euboean gulf. Penteli is renowned for its marble. Pentelic marble was the chief material used for the creation of all the architectural and sculptural masterpieces of Attica in the Classical Age.
In later years, Pentelic marble was used for the construction of the Panathenaikon Stadion for the first Olympic Games, held in Athens in 1896.

The Mount Hymettos

Botanic Garden

It is a mountain in Attica. It separates the plain of Attica from the valley of Mesogia. It is between Athens and the Pendeli mountain. It is 1026m high and is divided in two parts, Big Imitto and Small Imitto. It is covered with dense forest of pines and at many parts of thyme.
At the foot of the mountain there are the convents of Kesariani and saint John the Thelogist, also and the Botanic Garden.

Lycavittos Hill

From Lycavittos Hill The story of the creation of the Lycavittos Hill : Legend says that goddess Athena wanted her temple on the Acropolis to be closer to the sky. So, one stormy night, she went to Mount Penteli and extracted a huge rock from it, in order to place it on the top of the existing one. As she was carrying the rock two black birds approached her and gave her some extremely bad news which meant that she had to attend to them immediately. In her fury and hurry she dropped the rock right in the middle of Athens. After that the god-dess forgot all about it, and this hill, has been in Athens ever since..button to start
